One Night of Thunder

Duvidhā (दुविधा):— ( nf) a dilemma
Duvidha play is a re-written and re-imagined tale rooted in an ancient Indian legend from an 11th-century folk tales collection of Kathasaritsagara. Later, the German novelist and Nobel laureate Thomas Mann did the jocular retelling of this charming story in his novella Transposed Heads and so did the Indian author and actor Girish Karnad in his play Hayawadana and now we in 2022 inspired by the original story have written our own version of this ancient tale. Our story is about entangled identities and selfhood. In a twinned paroxysm, two friends, the intellectual Shridhar and the earthy Bhanusar, get beheaded under strange circumstances. Magically, their severed heads are restored - but to the wrong body and Shridhar's wife, Rukmani, is unable to decide which combination represents her real husband. The story is further complicated by the fact that Rukmani happens to be in love with both men. It is a potent tale about longing & forbidden desires, betrayal & failure, Pagan rituals and magic.
Khamosh! Adaalat Jaari Hai
Khamosh! Adalat Jaari Hai is an adaptation of Shantata! Court Chalu Aahe, a Marathi play written by playwright Vijay Tendulkar in 1963. The story begins with a group of people, who are planning on stage a play in a village. Since one of the cast members doesn't show up, a local is asked to replace him. To make him understand the courtroom procedures, a rehearsal is arranged with a mock trial. The story takes a twist when the pretend-play suddenly turns into a grim charge as lines are blurred between reality and fiction. Miss Benare is charged with foeticide, as well as accused of having an illicit relationship with a married Professor Damle, the missing member of the cast. Unfulfilled desires, gender discrimination, redundant social customs and the sources and manifestations of power emerge in this gripping drama.

Shakuntala
Wrote Goethe, the German writer and poet, when he read the translation of Kalidas’s play ‘Abhijñānaśākuntalam’ from Sanskrit in 1792. Modern English version of this ancient tale is written by none other, than our very talented Meena Desai. She has beautifully captured the essence that lies in the heart of the story, where duty or Dharma collide head to head with divine nature of love itself. Dushyanta is pulled by his royal responsibilities while Shakuntala’s moral compass steers her towards the path of Love. If Duhyant is the mind then Shakuntala is the heart! This eternal dance of yin and yang is superbly choreographed under the skillful direction of Tria Xiong and cheerfully played by our beloved cast! Life size Bunraku puppets, and hand & rod style puppets, that interchange between puppets and actors, are used in telling of this ancient story, where you will be transported to a magical world, that we are sure of!

Adhe Adhure is a play driven by conflicts, ambiguities and inderterminancy at all levels of experience. It exposes the fragmentation and sense of incompleteness that lies at the heart of every individual. No solid ground of morality is provided for characters to stand on, it is built on shifting sands of perception tat change with every new question that is raised.
It is a story unfolding of a family's slow decent into their own insecurities and worse fears.
